- There are over 1,000 admissions to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and the Intermediate Care Nursery – with a total of over 5,400 births at HSC from across Manitoba including 400 from out of province. The NICU is one of the biggest users of health care resources.
- Over 45% of all patients to the Children’s Hospital come from outside of Winnipeg.
- Children’s Hospital operates outreach programs in 19 northern communities in Manitoba. Doctors from Children’s Hospital travel to remote areas to treat asthma, diabetes, dental care and more so that children can receive the care they need without leaving their own communities.
- In 2013, the Emergency Department saw 52,422 children with everything from accidents, accidental poisoning, falls, burn, bronchitis, asthma and broken bones.
